During these uncertain times, many firms have opted to have their staff work remotely. But this change in routine may lead to some confusion in getting some essential functions done. One of these is the end of month billing. Click below to see an End of Month FAQ that may help back-office users get some of these functions done.

We know working away from the office can be difficult if you aren’t properly equipped with strong tools. That’s why PerfectLaw has a whole suite of mobile products designed to empower the attorneys on the go. Whether you’re looking to keep time, access documents, make check and expense requests, or even access your docket, PerfectLaw’s mobile products achieve the need to bring your practice wherever you may be.
Our mobile products are anchored by iSlips. Available for both iOS and Android, iSlips users have the ability to enter time or expense entries and then sync them to PerfectLaw back at the office. And if you have a receipt in front of you that you’d like to submit with your entry, you can just snap a picture of it with your phone and attach it to your submission.
Another mobile mainstay product is iDocuments, which gives you access to your document management system from your iOS or Android mobile device. With iDocuments, you’re able to open, view, and even edit documents (assuming you have whatever third party application that’s required).
Finally, our PLSync product will allow you to access AIM contacts and events (appointments and tasks) from your mobile device. With two-way, real-time synchronization to Microsoft® Exchange, events that are entered in AIM will show up on your mobile device; and events entered in your mobile device will appear in AIM
PerfectLaw All-in-One has been serving the legal community for over thirty years. And as technology changes, so too does the “all” in “All-In-One.”
We’re always working to take advantage and be inclusive of any new, beneficial strides in technology. As such, we frequently offer new, productive tools that help your law firm stay competitive and profitable. A great example of this is our Billing Compliance product.
Available as an add-on, our fully integrated billing compliance system is designed to reduce e-billing mistakes and help guarantee that your bills go out both correctly and on time each and every month.
It’s driven by two separate components: eForce and eAssist.
With eForce, firms set their own billing rules/guidelines or enter rules handed down by a client or insurance carrier on a “per matter” basis. This way, when a timekeeper enters time, errors are immediately identified and corrected, thus avoiding rejected e-bills, avoiding appeals, and avoiding lost time.
With eAssist, PerfectLaw provides the timekeeper with a template that may be referenced to avoid billing errors from the start.
PerfectLaw offers various forms of training and continuing education for its firms and users. With its Virtual Training program, firms get a chance to beef up their PerfectLaw skills and make sure their newest users are trained to maximize PerfectLaw’s capabilities. Our video-based training library may be securely accessed from the office or while at home and offers a broad foundation for users to review topics with our certified training professionals.
PerfectLaw’s iDocuments mobile app is the simplest way to view documents when you’re away from the office. Available for both iOS and Android, iDocuments allows users to access documents within the PerfectLaw DMS from anywhere with an Internet connection. And to prevent you from having to search through all of your firm’s documents, the app features a “Recent” list that puts everything you’ve recently been working with at the forefront.
However, sometimes you need to access a document that isn’t in your “Recent” list. On these occasions, you’ll want to utilize the “More” search. Clicking “More” will allow you to search for (and download) any document in your database, assuming that you have the security permissions. Then, you can download it and work with it online or offline.
PerfectLaw’s Back Office allows users to attach or swap out images to invoices after they’ve been posted. Often, vendors will submit their invoices with an image in an effort to keep accurate records. But, sometimes the image isn’t available or a back office user simply forgot to include it on the posted invoice. When this happens, some products require the invoice be reversed and re-entered with the image. But not PerfectLaw. PerfectLaw’s Back Office allows users to attach images directly onto posted invoices through a standard file browser. To see how, please watch the video below:
In recent years, the legal industry has experienced a quantum leap in legal technology options and legal software solutions. Many of the solutions have begun the move to the cloud from what was once only local server-based environments. Although a lot of marketing buzz has been created around the recently developed Hybrid Cloud, there are still numerous reasons why PerfectLaw’s All-In-One cloud model rises about the rest. These two models offer different solutions for different size firms running different products.
The Hybrid Cloud, although offering a diverse set of options, is often partitioned or broken apart across several different databases, thus requiring add-ons or plug-ins to integrate with third party software . This is not ideal.
In the All-In-One cloud, everything lives in harmony alongside your All-In-One database. This increases security, usability, maintenance, workflow, along a great deal of other perks.
To get a fuller picture, PerfectLaw has developed a 5-part series of short videos that juxtapose the All-In-One Cloud with the Hybrid cloud. The topics include a general overview, maintenance from the IT perspective, workflow, handling external documents, and security.

When it comes to law office software, firms should weigh the benefits of all the features and functions as they relate to their specific workflow. However, an often overlooked aspect of purchasing new software is choosing the right network to run that software. The choice is paramount in providing an optimal experience for the firm’s today and into the future. Just as firms would research features like document management, time entry and mobility, the network that’s right for you must be considered carefully. To help make an informed decision, below is an outline of the three most widely used network configurations in use today. In recent years law firm pricing has migrated away from hourly rates to alternatives that include fixed or flat fees, percentage and contingency fees. This movement is driven by law firms as clients increase their efforts to obtain hourly rate discounts and apply greater scrutiny to bills, questioning both hours billed and staffing (numbers and levels of lawyers). In this environment, hourly billers face ever-increasing pressures that actually penalize firms for efficiency. Although this article will focus on one example of alternative pricing—fixed or flat fees—the principles apply to contingent, percentage and other alternatives, as well.
It can be a hurdle when the Back Office has to wait for attorneys to review the pre-bill reports, searching for any errors in the billing. And once the corrections have been reported, the Back Office then has to retrieve the reported changes from the attorney and update the pending bills in the Time and Billing module. This is an unnecessary strain on the Back Office and needlessly duplicates work.
With PerfectLaw’s Distributed Billing module, pre-bill reports are profiled directly to the billing attorney’s matters where the pending bills may be reviewed and edited by the attorney’s themselves, allowing the Back Office to carry on with their other duties.
To see all of the various ways in which the Distributed Billing Module can be utilized, please watch this video.

PerfectLaw’s Attorney Expense Reimbursement product allows attorneys to submit expenses alongside images of receipts to the back office. With this service, attorneys are able to enter separate line items differentiating between firm- and client-related expenses. And since much of the reviewing is performed prior to posting, the service vastly reduces administrative hours while composing an accurate audit trail for the Back Office.

PerfectLaw is pleased to announce the release of iSlips 2.0 for Android devices. In this update, the Search has been reworked to make selecting matters quicker and easier; time entry has been updated to utilize the keypad layout; and the user interface has been updated to resemble the look and feel of the iOS app, providing a uniform presence amongst all versions of the app.
PerfectLaw’s Virtual Training saves law firms significant amounts of time and money by eliminating the need to travel or “make time.” With numerous ways to access PerfectLaw’s video library, users are able to learn when it’s most convenient to them. PerfectLaw’s video library is available to all PerfectLaw users through the Help system, training personnel, or upon a request made to the Help Desk. Users are even able to train from home by utilizing PerfectLaw Home Viewing.
PerfectLaw is excited to announce a new module for the iOS version of iSlips. With iSlips Expense, users will be able to quickly enter expense entries from anywhere with a wireless connection. Similar to iSlips Time Entry, users simply select the client matter from the one-touch search, enter the expense code and cost, and take a picture of the receipt.
Since your app is synced to PerfectLaw, all of your entered expenses and receipt images are automatically sent back to your office for your Office Assistant or Back Office personnel to review and post to billing.

Quickly reviewing pie charts to reference the hours worked and fees billed over time has been a popular AIM feature for many years. However, pie charts have limitations. For this reason, in the latest version of AIM, visualization may be instantly swapped back and forth between pie charts (for proportions) and bar graphs (for relative value).

iSlips 2.0 is the latest release of PerfectLaw’s popular, mobile, time-keeping app. With this latest version, users will now have the ability to look up client and matter information from a single field. Known as “PerfectLaw Quick Search,” users may enter text or numerical characters and quickly pare down the list to the desired client or matter. For a brief video highlighting this feature, please watch the release video.
Beyond the Quick Search, users will notice an entirely updated interface, look, and feel. If you believe your firm would be interested in using iSlips for iOS or Android, please contact us for more information.
PerfectLaw’s new enhancement enables Paperless Workflow users to route an imaged document to a specific matter-level folder straight from the cover sheet’s profiling screen. A “Folder Path” field has been added for you to specify the folder’s location, as seen in the image above.
If you have any questions regarding how this product enhancement works, please feel free to contact us.
Starting with Build 106, if a Time & Billing or Account Manager user has multiple bills to be emailed to a single client (a single email address), the software will now create one single email containing all of the bills. This process replaces the old method of having an email created for each individual bill.
This feature will reduce the amount of time spent sending bills and the amount of emails users would potentially have to sift through when searching for sent bills.
If you have any questions about this new feature, please contact us for more information.
In order to operate today’s most demanding legal software successfully, which cloud you choose is just as important as the software you select. In order to guarantee an exceptional cloud experience, firms must consider the network, technology, and security of where their software resides. For this reason, PerfectLaw® has partnered with the nation’s top data center, Verizon’s Terremark NAP of the Americas, to ensure that your PerfectLaw software runs as efficiently from the cloud as it would from your local desktop.
